Myanmar och kampen för demokrati

september 26

Since the military coup on February 1, 2021, Myanmar has been plunged into chaos and brutal repression. Freedom of expression has been almost completely crushed, and the country now ranks 171 out of 180 in Reporters Without Borders’ Press Freedom Index. A bloody civil war is raging, and the junta continues to carry out relentless abuses against the civilian population. Internet controls are severe, aimed at silencing testimony and preventing the world from seeing what is really happening.

Yet even in the darkness, voices are rising: strong, courageous, and alive. In this conversation you will meet three of them: musician and democracy activist Mun Mun, musician Simon Oo (MAEJR), and screenwriter and film director Sai Nyan Linn Sett. Through their art and their commitment, they fight for freedom, justice, and change. Listen to their powerful stories about a country in crisis, the strength of culture, and the hope that never dies. Moderator: Pernilla Nordqvist, PhD candidate, School of Global Studies, University of Gothenburg.

Tickets: Included in the entrance ticket.
